〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Twice, the Untouchable
CHARACTER AGE: late twenties
CANON ORIGIN: Original
CHRONOLOGY: Just after the re-opening of the gate and the arrival of the Emissaries
CLASS: Villain? -ish??
HOUSING: Any!
BACKGROUND:
15 years ago, our planet was invaded by a military force from another world. They struck suddenly, without warning, and wielding weapons and abilities so powerful that there was little we could do to even slow them down. Within a year, these shock troops and their seven commanding officers managed to suppress almost all substantial opposition to their rule and force the population to begin work on a number of great citadels and structures of less scrutable purpose in preparation for the imminent arrival of their true leaders.
Only... those leaders never appeared. And now, years later, the world rests uneasy as its abandoned custodians grow more and more disillusioned with their purpose, some neglecting their duties, others growing drunk on unsupervised power... and one who has long since abandoned her post entirely.
Twice remembers very little of her homeworld. It was a place of advanced magic and technology she knows for sure, but she never actually got to see any of it other than the keep she was raised in. Born into a land already at war with its neighbors, she was orphaned too young to clearly remember her family or even her own name and was brought to a royally-sanctioned facility that functioned as an orphanage, a school, and a place of human experimentation, meant to unlock the secrets of latent magical abilities and further the war effort.
Her education was dogmatic and the tests both mentally and physically damaging, but she found comfort in the presence of the other children there. They would care for each other, distract each other from everything they were going through, and even give each other nicknames like Twice's, after her official designation "HV3-HV3." At the time she was something of a spitfire, often punished for her willfulness and lack of respectful language, and would sometimes whisper at night to a girl she called Cat about the two of them escaping someday. But after Cat and several others from her dormitory went away for a test and simply never returned, Twice resigned herself to the fact that her only way out was developing a magical power that satisfied the Mother of the facility and allowed her to "graduate" to the next part of her training. The only person she knew that survived long enough to do this though was the kind older boy who had first given Twice her nickname, and when it happened, something in his mind and body was broken in the process, twisting him into something strange and dangerous and destroying even that faint hope for her...
But just when she had given up, Twice's power finally emerged in the form of a shield. A near-perfect shield between herself and the rest of the world, which not only protected her from more of the Mother's experiments, but also made her a very valuable asset. So much so that when royal arcanists forced open the connection between their world and ours in search of weaker prey, she was made an integral part of the invasion plan and given an honorary title far above that of the rank and file, despite her age. It was a decision that upset quite a few of the actually experienced soldiers, as one could imagine, and lead to her being treated with little respect by most of her "peers," other than one old knight named Gaelish who tried repeatedly to take her under his wing. In return though, Twice had just as little regard for her would-be protector as she did the rest of them. For all intents and purposes, she acted as if these people didn't exist. After all, they could do nothing to harm her anymore, and she had absolutely no interest in getting to know any of them. She had gone through too much and lost too many, and she just wanted it to stop, so... it did. Whether it was a facet of her power, the tests finally breaking her, or just trauma and force of will, Twice somehow managed to cut herself off from everyone and everything that she didn't need to survive, including most of her own emotions. Which, um, probably didn't help anyone like her better, what with the whole "Village of the Damned" creepy, psychic tween vibe she had going on.
In any case, her "education" may have kept her loyal to the cause long enough to spookily enter some secure fortifications completely unscathed and shut down their defenses from the inside, but after a while Twice's apathy even outweighed her brainwashing, and she simply walked away from it all. For more than a decade since then, she's done nothing but aimlessly wander the world she helped to ruin, ignoring any potential emotional connections (and whatever her former compatriots have been up to all this time) and simply taking anything she needs or wants from a beleaguered populace helpless to stop her.
Helpless, that is, until the arrival of a small but potentially game-changing rival force from Twice's homeworld.
PERSONALITY:
Twice is "disaffected youth" taken to the extreme. Lost and purposeless, she lives a life devoid of motivation other than to slowly meander wherever her curiosity takes her, acquiring in the most direct ways the things she needs to survive and sustain a life of at least minor comfort on her walkabout. Admittedly, she doesn't go out of her way to be cruel to those she takes from, but neither does she spare any kindness for them. It might be more accurate to say that she just doesn't care about, or sometimes even notice, these people or the consequences of her actions or, um... much of anything else, really.
Everything in the world is just at such a remove from her, in both a metaphorical and literal sense thanks to her abilities, that it can all easily end up feeling unreal or inconsequential in her mind. And considering she developed her power so young and that it's the only thing that saved her from the torture that killed or broke everyone she ever cared about or who had shown her any kindness...?
Well, let's just say it's somewhat understandable that she's allowed those walls to become her world and cut her off from caring about anything or anyone outside them again.
Now maybe somewhere behind that impenetrable barrier lurks a Grinchy little heart waiting to grow three sizes one day, but opening those floodgates and really dealing with the trauma of her past and the atrocities she contributed to? She's not going to make it easy for anyone who tries. So for now, other than simple pleasures like good food and nice clothes and an old appreciation for impressive feats of architecture, there's very little that interests Twice at all. Especially not other people. Sure, she may be able to hold up a conversation well enough and usually even speak in an oddly polite manner out of ingrained habit, but there's a very distinct lack of warmth and energy to Twice's voice at all times. A slow but succinct rhythm that rings very clearly of disinterest, even in conversations she herself has started for a specific purpose.
People, you see, are often little more than a distraction Twice has become resigned to tuning out, or sometimes a quiet song in the background to idly hum along with? Maybe even a means to an end on occasion, with conversation as the familiar but tedious form she has to fill in the blanks of to complete her task. It's all a bit difficult to explain, but then again, who would she ever have to explain it to?
POWER:
Enhanced Physiology: Like most of those who've gone through the enhancement processes she has, Twice has slightly above the normal human levels of endurance and healing, as well as a moderate resistance to disease, poisonous substances, and psychic/magical intrusion.
Untouchable Aura: A few millimeters out from her body, Twice has an invisible force field of magical/telekinetic energy that stops in its tracks just about anything she herself hasn't decided to allow through it. Otherwise, the ability is constant and she has very little control over it, but that's always been enough for her, really. I mean, she's already almost impervious to harm and her aura can sometimes even give Twice the illusion of having superhuman strength, i.e., despite her punches and kicks not actually being any stronger than the average person's, the force field can support more weight than her body ever could without it and most objects she so much as walks into (doors, walls, armored tanks, coffee table corners, etc.) tend to just slowly get pushed out of the way if she concentrates a bit.

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
Where would I find the best clothes here?
[It's an abrupt start to the video, free of any preamble or adjustment to the camera. Just Twice's face suddenly appearing in front of a downtown backdrop, looking and sounding as if she's slightly bored and only halfway paying attention. For a second it's almost like... does she even know she posted this to the network? Did she mean to ask Siri or something instead?? But then she tilts her head slightly and frowns in dissatisfaction. Something about the way that came out didn't sit right with her apparently, so she tries again, this time a little more focused but somehow STILL sounding just as bored.]
Excuse me. That was rude.
I'm called Twice, and I'm new to this place. [There's a pause as she stops to think... and it ends up lasting an AWKWARDLY long time, like maybe she's just trailed off and isn't going to finish the thought at all! Though thankfully she does. Eventually.] Heropa, I believe the name is. I need new clothing, and I was told that this is the way to get answers to any questions I might have. So if anyone would be willing to tell me where I can find clothes of fine quality, I'd be very grateful.
[And that's it! The feed ends, without a single panicked question about superheroes or world-hopping or being kidnapped, tagged, and branded. Just a nice, calm request for directions to a new outfit or two. Clearly, she has her priorities straight.]
